March 3, 2012 Lunch – Pasta, Political Rally, and Dinner – Greenhouse Bistro and Bakery

March 3, 2012 Lunch – Pasta,  Political Rally, and Dinner – Greenhouse Bistro and Bakery

We woke up late and we decided to cook lunch.  Suzette made it by cooking small conch shell pasta and heating up some PPI sausage, mushroom pasta sauce.  It was delicious and stoked the fires for a ten mile ride into a 15 to 20 mile per hour sustained wind.
.
At we attended an old fashion political reception held at the Rail Runner station in Los Lunas to raise awareness about the need for more foster families in Valencia County.  It featured Governor Martinez, who signed an adoption regulation bill and spoke about how there were 213 children who needed placement and only 15 foster families in Valencia County.

The real reason for going was to check the catered food prepared by the Greenhouse Bistro and Bakery.  There were platters filled with puff pastry cups filled with crab mousse and topped with either a baby shrimp or a bay scallop, lovely petit fours, decadent chocolate brownies and interesting puff pastry stars dusted with powdered sugar, lots of vegetables with a Ranch dressing.  There were ladies serving from the platters so there was no massive attack of the food trays.  As we left spoonfuls of canapès were ladled onto our plates.  So we had our appetizers at the political event.

We then went to the Greenhouse Bistro and Bakery for dinner.  I ordered crab bisque made by Chef Eric with was delicious, but is more creamy than his tomato bisque, I enjoyed the crab but I like his more tangy roasted tomato bisque better.

We then split a petit filet mignon served on a slice of battered and fried eggplant and a puddle of hollandaise sauce and garnished with a sautéed mushroom cap.  You get your choice of herbed mashed potatoes or risotto.  I ordered both and enjoyed the mashed potatoes most.  We enjoyed a glass of German Dornfelter red wine with the meal. We were full after splitting the steak cooked to rare, per our request; perhaps due to all the appetizers we had eaten at the political event, so we ordered a German fresh fruit strudel to go.

Bon Appètit
