February 28, 2026 Breakfast - Panettone Brunch - Lax on Bagel Dinner - Vietnam 2000

February 28, 2026 Breakfast - Panettone  Brunch - Lax on Bagel Dinner - Vietnam 2000

Today the U.S. and Israel bombed Iran, starting a new war in the Middle East and possibly WWIII.

I watched soccer and ate a toasted slice of Panettone spread with berry preserves at 7:30 with a cup of tea.

Suzette and I then worked in the yard removing Columbines, lifting the screen off the pond, and planting Astride and Lilly of the Valleys around our new Buddha Statue.

At 11:30 we finished and i made brunch. I toasted three slices of bagel, spread goat milk cheese on them and garnished mine with slices of red onion and Gravad Lax and capers. I put avocado on the bagel for Suzette.

Will and Willy were here to move couches to Willy’s new rental house. They had recently eaten,, so I gave Will some Gravad lax to take home

I watched the rest of the Man City v. Leeds match, which Man City won, took a shower, and rested until 4:00 when we dressed and drove to Vietnam 2000 for dinner with the Chews and Blaugrunds. It was fun to introduce them to one of my favorite restaurants.

I told everyone my favorite dishes, No. 30, No.76, and No. 87. Elaine ordered her favorite: spring rolls with that fabulous peanut sauce. Nancy and Suzette and I ordered No. 30, a vermicelli bowl with egg rolls and grilled marinated pork. Wayne ordered No. 76, a bowl of soup with egg noodles and a duck leg. And, Cliff ordered No. 87, a platter of boiled flour sheets on a bed of sautéed mung bean sprouts band cucumber sticks garnished with marinated fried pork and fried egg rolls. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dish. I paid for dinner for everyone, a very inexpensive $60.00.

                                                     No. 30

We then guided Cliff and Nancy to the parking lot north of Johnson Gym and we walked to Popejoy for the NMPhilhatmonic Concert.

The concert was conducted by a young conductor currently working and conducting at Arizona State University.

I noticed that he took his undergraduate degree at TCU in violin and graduate degree at University of Colorado.

The Phil’s current conductor is leaving, so the hunt is on for a new musical director. I loved the program. The first half was contemporary American composers with a saxophone soloist, also from ASU and the second half was Moussurky’s Paintings in an Exhibition.

The less than full audience loved both parts of the program judging from their rousing applause.

When the concert ended we drove home and watched the news of the War in the Middle East instead of Have I got News for you. Suzette went to bed at 9:00 and I went to bed at 10:00.

It was fun introducing everyone to Vietnam 2000.

Bon Appetit
