April 22, 2025 Breakfast - Gravad Trout with cream cheese on whole-wheat bread and Earl Grey tea and orange juice and fruit. Lunch at La Azul
The scenery is spectacular. I keep taking pictures of the Andes.
Today I slept until 8:30 and when Billy returned from breakfast he drove me to the restaurant. I was determined to not eat everything because we had a 12:30 multi course meal planned at La Azul winery.
I ate fruit with yogurt and ordered trout. Soon Iris brought a small plate with six or seven thin slices of Gravad red trout from Patagonia. When Iris asked me if I wanted tea she said, “I think we have a bag of that.” She soon appeared with a tea bag of Earl Grey, so I had my traditional breakfast of bread smeared with cream cheese and garnished with slices of Gravad trout and tea.
I read an article in Texas Monthly about how a wrongly convicted man was freed through the efforts of juror who recanted her conviction vote 27 years after his trial. I was so impressed that I subscribed to Texas Monthly.
At 10:30 I walked back to the house in the vineyards that contributed to me getting about 3000 steps today. I actually found that I enjoyed the walk from the restaurant to the house.
At 11:40 we drove to La Azul Winery for lunch.
La Azul was recommended by Francesca. It specializes in lunch with its wines. We each took the 3 course meal and the premium wine service for $121 each.
It seemed like the three course was a four or five course meal because every time we said we wanted something he brought it, such as the sweet corn soup along with the chorizo on a merlot bun and empanadas for appetizers.
There were five wines served. The first was a welcome glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Then he brought a bottle of reserve Cabernet Franc with the appetizers.
Then a bottle of a red blend that was 20% each of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, merlot, Syrah, and Bondago. I liked the blend the best.
Then with the meal we were served a bottle of Syrah and with dessert a bottle of Merlot.
Elaine, Suzette and up I ordered the pork shoulder cooked 15 hours that fell apart at the touch of a fork. It was served with a au jus and Demi-glacé sauce and a pile of creamed and sweetened pumpkin.
Billy ordered the rib eye with potatoes and tomatoes.
Billy and finished our main course but we asked to take the pork that Elaine and Suzette could not eat.
Dessert was interesting. Elaine ordered a almond crisp shell on which was a lemon mousse, suzette ordered a cream brûlée that was Dulce de Leche flavored creme and Dulce de Leche on top of the hardened crystalized sugar crust. Billy and I ordered a Chocolate Marquessa which was a chocolate flourless torte with a creamy topping. I have not had a good chocolate dessert lately. Dulce de Leche that is a thick caramel predominates and is much sweeter than chocolate.
We drove home at 5:00 and rested and then watched Washington Week and went to bed.
Suzette and I watched several episodes of Have I Got News for You and went to bed and I blogged until 11:30.
Bon Appetit
